At almost every medical office building (MOB) real estate conference a professional might attend these days, there is talk of the need for efficiency and the development of cost-effective buildings.
That’s because as hospitals and health systems look to their future in the era of healthcare reform, they see a need, perhaps a necessity, to deliver their healthcare services in cost-effective ways that bolster the bottom line.
As a result, one emerging trend finds more and more health systems outsourcing their real estate, hiring third-party service firms to provide services such as: property management, construction program management, utility oversight, energy and sustainability services, lease administration and brokerage, portfolio strategy and real estate transaction services.
