Side-by-side Centra Rehabilitation Hospital and Centra Behavioral Health Hospital deliver a combined $126M investment in post-acute and behavioral health care to Central Virginia
Capital Growth Medvest and JE Dunn Capital Partners today announced the completion of two landmark healthcare facilities in Lynchburg, Virginia: the Centra Rehabilitation Hospital and the Centra Behavioral Health Hospital. Developed in partnership with LifePoint Health and Centra Health, the two facilities sit side by side on Simons Run and represent a combined investment of approximately $126 million in post-acute and behavioral health services for the region.
The Centra Rehabilitation Hospital is a 65,000-square-foot, two-story, 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility designed to serve patients recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, and other complex neurological conditions. The hospital provides intensive nursing care alongside physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech pathology services. Earl Swensson Associates (ESA), the award-winning Nashville-based healthcare architecture firm, designed the facility.
Adjacent to the rehabilitation hospital, the Centra Behavioral Health Hospital is a 60,500-squarefoot, 72-bed facility offering inpatient psychiatric care for adults. The hospital was designed to foster healing through thoughtfully planned therapeutic spaces, including open-air areas, spacious patient rooms, a community area, and an outdoor courtyard. Stengel Hill and Associates, also based in Nashville, served as the architect for the behavioral health facility. Both buildings passed Life Safety Code inspections in July and May 2026 respectively and are now open to patients.
JE Dunn Construction, a national general contractor headquartered in Kansas City, built both projects simultaneously, with its Nashville team leading construction. The effort required close coordination across two distinct facility types and clinical requirements, while JE Dunn Capital Partners, JE Dunn’s real estate investment arm, co-invested in the development. Construction on both facilities began in mid-2024, with substantial completion achieved in June 2026.

Together, the two facilities add more than 125,000 square feet of specialized healthcare capacity to Central Virginia, expanding access to services that were previously unavailable or limited in the region. Both hospitals are operated by Centra Health, a leading regional health system headquartered in Lynchburg.
