University Health System has just opened the new $787 million, 10-story, 1 million square foot, 420-room Sky Tower at 4502 Medical Drive in the South Texas Medical Center in San Antonio. The new University Hospital tower completes the system’s $899.4 million capital improvement campaign, the largest construction undertaking in the history of Bexar County, Texas. The campaign also included expanding and renovating the Robert B. Green Campus in downtown San Antonio, which was finished last year.

In a statement, James Adams, chair of the Bexar County Hospital District Board of Managers, which oversees University Health System, said, “We are proud to present the redesigned University Hospital to its owners, the people of Bexar County. With the new Sky Tower and the expansion of the Robert B. Green Campus, we have not only improved the delivery of healthcare in our region, but have completed this enormous project on time and within budget — and in the process helped our community weather the economic downturn of recent years through jobs and contracts with local businesses.”
