WVU Hospitals Inc. in Morgantown, W.Va., proclaims that its mission is to serve all of the state’s residents. In order to better do so, the health system recently proposed a $280 million, 10-story tower on the campus of its Ruby Memorial and WVU Children’s hospitals.

The 139-bed tower is also needed, WVU Hospitals officials say, to address capacity issues and to keep up with growing demand. Before proceeding with the project, WVU needs to receive a Certificate of Need (CON) from the West Virginia Health Care Authority. The WVU system is part of West Virginia United Health System.
