Companies: CHS to buy assets of York, Pa., system

It looks as if the high number of mergers and acquisitions activity among hospitals and health systems is going to continue throughout 2012, with a recent purchase by publicly traded Community Health Systems (NYSE: CYH) Inc. getting the  ball rolling in the new year.

The Franklin, Tenn.-based company with 133 hospitals in its fold announced that it has entered an agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of York, Pa.-based Memorial Health Systems. The assets include the 100-bed Memorial Hospital in York, the Surgical Center of York and a number of outpatient and ancillary services in York County, located in southeastern Pennsylvania and about 70 miles north of Baltimore.
