REIT THAT FOCUSES ON HOSPITALS BUYS N.J. ACUTE CARE FACILITY, TEXAS LTAC

Birmingham, Ala.-based Medical Properties Trust Inc. (NYSE: MPW), a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT), recently paid more than $80 million to acquire the real estate assets of an acute care hospital in New Jersey and a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital in Texas.

The REIT paid $58 million for the six-story, 278-bed hospital in New Jersey. While Medical Properties Trust (MPT) did not name the hospital, officials with Bayonne Medical Center (BMC), located just north of Staten Island in Bayonne, N.J., acknowledged the sale in recent weeks.
