Inpatient Projects: New hospital already needs to expand

Just 15 months after opening, the 87-bed Methodist Stone Oak Hospital in the northern part of San Antonio already plans to expand to a total of 142 beds by early 2011 due to greater than expected patient volumes.

PATIENT VOLUMES TOP EXPECTATIONS AT STONE OAK HOSPITAL IN SAN ANTONIO

When Methodist Healthcare System was planning for its hospital in the growing, affluent Stone Oak section in the northern part of San Antonio, officials predicted sharp growth in patient volumes.

They were right, and then some. Just 15 months after opening the 87-bed hospital, Methodist Healthcare has announced plans to add another 46 beds, in addition to other beds added in the meantime, bringing the total to 142.

The new beds would be used for neurosurgery and orthopedic patients. Also, the hospital’s women’s services area would be doubled with the addition of another 12 beds.
