HOUSTON – Construction is set to begin this month on the $300 million Methodist West Houston Hospital. The future hospital, which is part of Houston-based Methodist Hospital System, is being built in the growing suburb of Katy, Texas, in the far western part of the metropolitan area. Plans call for a 500,000 square foot, six-story facility that is slated to open in December 2010 with 112 beds; eventually, the system could expand the bed count to 192. Methodist also plans to add a six-story, 166,000 square foot medical office building (MOB) on the 86-acre campus. The future hospital’s emergency room would have the capacity to treat 30,000 patients annually. The hospital is being built directly west of the future $200 million Texas Children’s Hospital, which is also slated for completion in 2010.
