A joint venture of Paric Corp. and Barton Malow Co. is building the $75 million, five-story, 180,000 square foot, 72-bed Progress West HealthCare Center on 48 acres in O’Fallon, Mo. St. Louis-based Paric and Southfield, Mich.-based Barton Malow say the project will be completed next year. St. Louis-based HOK is the project architect… Minneapolis-based Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. is expected to close by early this year on the acquisition of Phoenix-based Summit Builders… West Georgia Health System has selected the Atlanta office of McCarthy Building Cos. as the construction manager, the Washington office of Ellerbe Becket as the project architect and KLMK Group of Richmond, Va., as the program manager for the first phase of a $60 million expansion and renovation program. They will team with design and planning firms Morell & Associates of Northbrook, Ill., and Engberg Anderson Design Partnership Inc. of Milwaukee, who have worked out a planning and programming system for the project… Kaiser Permanente has selected Helmuth Obata and Kassabaum to be the architect for a new $200 million, 212-bed replacement hospital and parking structure in Redwood City, Calif…. Ernst & Ernst Building Contractors won two first place awards for construction excellence, including one for the Tri-County Eye Physicians & Surgeons Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in Southampton, Pa. The work included the construction of a two-story, 12,000 square foot ASC and the renovation of an 8,000 square foot ophthalmology center. The awards were given by the Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the Associated Builders & Contractors Inc. (ABC), a national association for the construction industry.

Burke Whitman recently became president and COO at Health Management Associates Inc. (NYSE: HMA) in Naples, Fla. He was previously CFO at Triad Hospitals in Plano, Texas. W. Stephen Love, Triad’s senior vice president and controller, was named interim CFO… Marilyn Tavenner was appointed Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the state of Virginia by Gov.-elect Timothy Kaine. Ms. Tavenner, a Virginia native, had been president of the outpatient services group at HCA Inc. in Nashville, Tenn., since its formation in 2004… David Williams was named CEO of HCA’s two-campus, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond, Va. He replaced Patrick Farrell, who is now president of HCA’s Richmond division… Thomas Garthwaite was named executive vice president and chief medical officer of Newton Square, Pa.-based Catholic Health East. He had been director of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services… Lee Domanico was named president and CEO of Portland, Ore.-based Legacy Health System. Mr. Domanico was CEO at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, Calif. He replaces Robert Pallari, who retired… Warren Payne was name president and CEO of Baptist Health System in Knoxville, Ky. Mr. Payne recently retired as president and CEO of Kenesaw Leasing, a company that he founded. The system was left without a CEO last month when Dale Collins resigned unexpectedly, citing the pressures of the job… Colene Daniel was named president and CEO of Greater Southeast Community and Hadley Memorial hospitals in Washington. The hospitals are owned by Doctors Community Healthcare, Scottsdale, Ariz. Ms. Daniel was previously CEO of Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore… Al Taylor is scheduled to become president and CEO Jan. 23 of Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle, N.C. Mr. Taylor was president of Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn, N.C. He replaces Roy Hinson, who retired… Ken Paulus was named to the new post of COO at Allina Hospitals & Clinics, Minneapolis. Mr. Paulus had been president and CEO of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and Health One Care System in Newton, Mass…. Robert Connors M.D. was named president of DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. Dr. Connors was previously director of pediatric surgery, director of pediatric trauma services and director of surgery services at the hospital. DeVos Children’s Hospital is a member of Spectrum Health… John Henry was named interim CEO of Grady Health System in Atlanta. Mr. Henry has been the system’s COO. He replaces Andrew Agwunobi, who resigned… Sherlyn A. Hailstone was named president of SSM-owned St. Joseph Health Center in St. Louis and Patrice Komoroski has been chosen as president of SSM-owned Hospital West, also in St. Louis. The two hospitals previously had one president, Kevin Kast, who has retired. Ms. Hailstone has been executive vice president(EVP) and CEO at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Ill. Ms. Komoroski has been EVP-chief operating officer (COO) at Hospital West… Laure Duhot has been named SVP of the international capital group, at Sunrise Senior Living Inc. (SRZ) Ms. Duhot had been founding partner and principal for MacQuarie Capital Partners… Sean Barden has been named VP and CFO at Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest Hospital, Ill., replacing Jim Wuellner, who has taken a position as CFO at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minn. Mr. Barden had been corporate controller at Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro, N.C…. Robert Perry has been selected president and CEO of St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y. replacing Paul Chodkowski, who has taken a position as administrator of St. Anthony’s Summit Medical Center in Frisco, Colo. Mr. Perry had held a position as executive director and CEO of the Temple University Health System in Philadelphia… Bruce Bartoo has been named chief development officer for the Sisters of Mercy Health System of Chesterfield, Mo…. Mr. Bartoo had been a regional chief development officer for ProMedica Health System… Ryan Hickey has been selected as VP of operations of Forum Health Trumbell Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio. Mr. Hickey had been director of cancer services for the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center’s Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Ky…. Christopher Carney, who retired in March as CEO of Bon Secours Health System in Marriottsville, Md., has joined executive search firm Witt/Kieffer of Oak Brook, Ill., as a recruiter and shareholder… Gregory Burfitt was named president and CEO of Centura Health, Englewood, Colo., replacing Joseph Swedish. Burfitt was COO for Inova Health System, Falls Church, Va. Mr. Swedish resigned to become president and CEO of Trinity Health, Novi, Mich., on Jan. 1. Centura’s interim CEO, Jay Picerno, will remain COO and EVP for the system.

Tim Couch has been promoted to national operations director for Trammell Crow Healthcare Services. Mr. Couch as been alliance director for the firm’s Baylor Health Care account during the past five years. Mr. Couch is succeeded as alliance director by Jeff Cox, who was deputy alliance director and who has served on the Baylor Health Care account for more than four years… John Cobb has been named senior managing director for the newly expanded real estate finance segment of GE Healthcare Financial Services (GE HFS).
