New state-of-the-art facility provides world-class sports medicine care and treatment to athletes of all ages and skill levels.
Sacramento, Calif., April 13, 2026 – Kaiser Permanente opened today a new 20,700-square-foot sports medicine center in downtown Sacramento that provides advanced care and treatment for injuries related to sports, exercise, and everyday activities.
The Sports Medicine Center at Sacramento Downtown Commons — one of the largest sports medicine facilities in the Kaiser Permanente network — will complement Kaiser Permanente’s ongoing investment in the downtown area and reinforce our commitment to providing high-quality, specialized care to patients and members in the Greater Sacramento area.
With the new state-of-the-art facility, we will offer the latest diagnostic, evaluation, and rehabilitation technology, and patients will find a wide range of exam, procedure, and treatment spaces.
“Kaiser Permanente is continuing to grow along with our Sacramento community, providing our members and patients with convenient care and service now and into the future,” said Jay Robinson, senior vice president and area manager, Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and South Sacramento. “Our new sports medicine center adds to our Downtown Commons Medical Offices where we have provided primary care and specialty care since 2018, and our future 310-bed Railyards Medical Center opening in 2029. We continue to invest in our city’s core.”
Comprehensive care and treatment
Kaiser Permanente emphasizes training, injury prevention, early intervention, and injury correction to return athletes to peak functionality as quickly as possible.
The sports medicine center will offer comprehensive care and specialized treatment to patients and members. It includes a spacious 5,600-square-foot gymnasium equipped with specialized strength and conditioning machines, cardio stations, and functional training areas, and it provides a supervised, safe space where recovering athletes can run, jump, kick, and throw — helping to maintain progress, prevent re-injury, and build strength.
In addition, a 566-square-foot hardwood floor replicates the court-sport experience, allowing our experts to evaluate in real time how recovering athletes would perform when playing basketball, volleyball, and other court sports.
Trusted leader in sports medicine
Kaiser Permanente has one of the largest sports medicine programs in the country. Our care team includes board-certified, fellowship-trained doctors specializing in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. They’re supported by specialty-trained physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, and radiology technologists.
In addition to the Sports Medicine Center at Sacramento Downtown Commons, Kaiser Permanente operates a state-of-the-art Sports Medicine Center in Modesto and the Mission Bay Sports Medicine Center in San Francisco.
“This new center will allow us to continue serving our members with convenient access to specialized sports medicine care in a rehabilitative and healing environment,” said Rick Vitangcol, MD, physician in chief, Kaiser Permanente Sacramento. “This facility includes top-of-the line equipment and technology to help our clinicians and trainers deliver advanced care at the highest level for our patients.”
Kaiser Permanente is recognized as one of the nation’s leading health care providers and has been caring for Sacramento area residents for 60 years. Nearly one million people in the Greater Sacramento area have Kaiser Permanente care and coverage.
