FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Houston, Texas- March 25, 2025 – Pearl River Companies, a Houston-based real estate investment and development firm, today announced a landmark investment in Bastrop, Texas, with the development of Sendero, a 75-acre open-air, mixed-use destination. Designed to support the growing needs of the Bastrop community, Sendero will provide modern conveniences while preserving its natural beauty and small-town charm.
Located 30 miles southeast of Downtown Austin at the intersection of Highway 71 and FM 969, upon completion, Sendero will feature over 250,000 square feet of retail and dining, 5+ acres of public greenspace, 782 luxury multifamily residences, a 120+ key hotel, and more than 90,000 square feet of dedicated wellness and medical offices. The residential phase of the project has already been delivered with the opening of Alta Trails in 2024 developed by Wood Partners. The commercial phase is set to break ground in April 2025, with phased completion planned through 2030.
A Vision for Community-Centered Living
Sendero’s mission is to create a more engaging form of small-town living by enhancing access to premium services, curated dining and retail offerings, and fostering connections through communal spaces and experiences.
“Sendero represents our commitment to creating a truly distinctive development that enhances the Bastrop community while preserving its distinct charm,” said Mason Mote, Founding Partner at Pearl River Companies. “As someone who grew up here, I’m deeply invested in ensuring that Sendero reflects the community’s values while providing the amenities and opportunities that will support Bastrop’s growth for generations to come.”
Designed for Sustainability and Walkability
The project is designed as a pedestrian-friendly environment and meant to integrate seamlessly with Bastrop’s natural landscape. High-quality trees, hardy plants, and shrubs will support local pollinators and endure the Texas elements, creating a sustainable and visually appealing environment.
“We want Sendero to feel welcoming with thoughtful design and generous pedestrian space where people can come together,” said Spencer Harkness, Founding Partner at Pearl River Companies. “This project is about creating something that not only serves the community but also positively impacts the environment and the people who call Bastrop home.”
A Hub for Work, Play, and Connection
Sendero will offer a diverse mix of retail and dining options, including popular tenants like Chuy’s, Scooter’s Coffee, Jersey Mike’s, Texas Roadhouse, and Einstein Bros. Bagels. The development will also feature wellness offices, outdoor fitness spaces, and a performance pavilion for live music and community events, making it a gathering place for residents and visitors alike.
Economic and Community Benefits
Sendero will foster economic growth and enrich the community in Bastrop, creating hundreds of jobs during both the construction phase and upon completion. The development’s diverse mix of retail, dining, and wellness options will serve Bastrop’s expanding population, including newcomers attracted by the area’s affordability and small-town charm. With a cost of living 10% below the national average and a vibrant workforce, Bastrop provides a unique opportunity for businesses to flourish alongside national brands.
