News Release: Neenan Archistruction Spearheads Seven Healthcare Projects Throughout Western United States

Design-build firm supports expanding healthcare access through the creation and renovation of customized spaces.

FORT COLLINS, Colo., January 7, 2025 — Neenan Archistruction, a fully integrated design-build firm based in Colorado, has contributed to the evolution of various healthcare spaces across the Western U.S. throughout 2024. Neenan Archistruction worked diligently with each client to deliver efficient solutions tailored to their unique challenges and ensured that every space felt like an extension of the community.

The below 2024 projects add to Neenan’s long record of designing and building community-focused healthcare projects.

  •  The Jerry Smith Community Wellness Center: A collaboration between Neenan Archistruction and Northern Nevada HOPES, this clinic embodies a shared vision to make holistic wellness accessible to underserved populations. Located in Reno’s East 4th Street, a recognized healthcare desert, the clinic offers a wide range of services including primary medical care, behavioral health care, case management, resource navigation, support groups, substance use treatment, an onsite pharmacy and transportation. The design intentionally supports the co-location of services within the building, creating opportunities for all-encompassing patient care. The clinic includes a first-floor walk-in clinic, designed to reduce emergency service calls by providing residents an alternative to ambulance-based medical care. The project, completed on schedule and within budget, now serves as a critical resource for more than 12,000 additional northern Nevadans, reflecting the success of both the design-build process and the strong community support garnered throughout the project’s development.
  • Eye Health Northwest: Located just south of Portland in Happy Valley, this physician-owned clinic is a full-service organization that combines the knowledge of physicians, surgeons and eyewear experts. Neenan and Eye Health Northwest are completing schematic design for two re-modeling projects that will quadruple their surgery capacity. These spaces are located half a mile away from one another, resulting in comprehensive patient care without a need for extensive travel. Both projects are anticipated to begin construction in the spring of 2025.
  • Reno Orthopedic Center ASC: Reno Orthopedic Center (ROC) holds a legacy of serving the Northern Nevada region for more than 60 years and seeing more than 214,000 patients each year. As the region’s leading provider of orthopedic care, and the only full-service orthopedic care and urgent care site in Reno, it was critical for ROC to add capacity, expanding access to care for the community. As part of a three-phase construction project with Neenan, ROC remodeled its former surgery center and expanded its imaging center into an adjacent clinic module. For phase three, ROC and Neenan are renovating the space’s fourth floor, which will allow the shell space to be utilized for additional clinic functions.
  • Bitterroot Health: This year, Neenan and Bitterroot Health celebrated the grand opening of their second collaborative design-build project, Darby Scripps. The state-of-the-art healthcare facility is revolutionizing access to medical services in the surrounding community. Prior to the opening of Bitterroot Health, residents of Darby had to endure often hazardous road conditions for 30-plus miles in inclement weather to access essential healthcare services. This clinic fills a critical gap in healthcare accessibility by offering lab services, pediatric, women’s health, behavioral health and physical therapy, in addition to its existing family practice and urgent care services.
  • Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC), Astoria: In 2024, YVFWC and Neenan broke ground on their second project together; the Astoria Community Health Center. This new build will include comprehensive outpatient services, such as pharmacy, general medicine, dental clinic and lab services. Using agency-regulated best practices, Neenan collaborated with YVFWC to inform the design with scientific evidence of patient and medical professionals’ needs, which will result in a building that enhances patient experience and staff efficiency.
  • Ampla Community Health Centers:  – Neenan and Ampla are wrapping up a major remodel and addition project to the Marysville clinic, slated to be completed this winter. Offering a wide range of payment options to alleviate financial burdens, Ampla Health’s mission is to provide thorough and convenient healthcare that is attainable, irrespective of one’s insurance status. The Marysville Center offers both specialty and general medical services, such as anemia screenings, school physicals, psychiatry and more.

“We are in the business of strengthening communities, and access to quality medical care is paramount to a thriving community. Our clients are tirelessly dedicated to increasing access for patients and efficiency for staff of healthcare centers, and we thoroughly enjoy working with them and designing around their specific needs,” said Bill Pigg, President of Neenan Archistruction. “We are truly honored to serve these communities through offering a space that supports their goals.”

The design-build model lends itself perfectly to healthcare projects, due to its core function of collaboration. From the inception of project planning and fundraising, through the design and construction phases, Neenan and their clients work in lockstep to create highly customized spaces. The diligent coordination allows Neenan to deeply understand the needs and pain points of healthcare professionals and address them in the building’s design. This results in healthcare spaces that go beyond the expectation of basic necessities and transforms the space into a product that supports and amplifies access, efficiency and comfort.
