Experienced professional adds to team’s skilled client services and influential success
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – December 11, 2024 – Cushman & Wakefield has boosted its Southern California Healthcare Advisory Practice, announcing that Matthew Melendres has joined the firm as a Senior Associate. Based in San Diego, Melendres will work on a premier Cushman & Wakefield local healthcare team that is led by Joe Zurek and Nehal Wadhwa, two of the region’s most respected healthcare brokers and experts in the specialized medical sector.
Offering immersive experience in both brokerage and the healthcare community, the team provides client services across the spectrum, including landlord representation, tenant representation, and owner occupier/investment sales. The team focuses on everything from medical outpatient buildings (MOBs) to ambulatory care facilities, surgery centers, urgent care, healthcare corporate offices, and other satellite locations.
Over the past five years alone, the team of Zurek and Wadhwa have demonstrated their impact in the healthcare real estate industry through impressive statistics, completing over 250 transactions totaling over 1.6 million square feet and valued at more than $250 million in consideration. The San Diego based team also includes broker Elliott Fink, Associate and is supported by Melanie Chavez, Brokerage Coordinator. The team was recently recognized as a 2024 Broker Team of the Year Finalist by San Diego Business Journal and as Influencers in Healthcare by GlobeSt.
“We are thrilled to add Matthew as a key member of our healthcare practice in Southern California. He brings outstanding knowledge and experience in healthcare real estate. He also has proven creative transaction execution,” said Joe Zurek. “Matthew also has a great, positive attitude and vibrant energy that is wholly client-centric, aligning perfectly with our close team dynamic,” continued Nehal Wadhwa.
“Given that real estate is typically the second-largest expense of a healthcare practice, the business is closely tied to what the real estate situation facilitates. A well-designed and data-driven real estate strategy allows a business to navigate unforeseen challenges and mitigate potential risks effectively. Our team is very skilled at navigating our clients through this strategic process, and adding Matt further boosts our capabilities,” added Zurek.
The team publishes quarterly Healthcare Real Estate Market Reports for several markets in Southern California offering local insights and guidance for the benefit of their clients, local physicians, and the broader healthcare community.
Melendres joins Cushman & Wakefield from Colliers, where he was a valuable member of the firm’s San Diego Healthcare team, focusing on the leasing and sales of medical buildings.
Matthew Melendres said, “Working with seasoned healthcare services experts Joe and Nehal, combined with the exceptional Cushman & Wakefield platform, enables me to deliver top-tier performance for our current and future clients. It is always my primary goal to provide exceptional utility to my clients through strategic business development, client engagement, and transaction services. I am excited for my future at Cushman & Wakefield.”
Melendres holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Reno, where he started his career in commercial real estate.
