News Release: Reno Orthopedic Center, The Neenan Company Debut Expanded Musculoskeletal Campus

Expansion Project Brings All Orthopedic Specialties Under One Roof, Marks Investment in Downtown Reno

RENO, Nev. — Reno Orthopedic Center and The Neenan Company, a fully integrated design-build firm based in Colorado, are celebrating the grand opening of the leading orthopedic care specialist’s newly expanded musculoskeletal campus in downtown Reno. The Neenan Company served as the design-build partner for the project, delivering the 138,000-square-foot campus to bring all possible orthopedic services under one roof.

The project enhances services for Reno’s rapidly growing population, as the only orthopedic care and urgent care site in the Reno market. Reno Orthopedic Center (ROC) sees about 214,000 patients per year, which continues to grow with the center’s expansion of services. Located in the downtown corridor at 555 N. Arlington Ave., the Reno campus serves as the flagship location for ROC, with a total of five ROC offices throughout Northern Nevada.

“As Reno continues to see an influx of new residents, it is paramount that we also grow with expanded access to care for the community and new service offerings,” said Dr. Renny Uppal, chairman of the board for ROC. “Our team and patients already see vividly the improved experience while we’ve been operating out of the new additions to the campus this past year, while the remainder of the project phases were finalized. This project signifies much more than an upgrade in our facilities – it reflects our advancement as a hub of orthopedic excellence, where we elevate patient care into an art.”

Breaking ground in May 2019, the project features a 76,000-square-foot addition that connects to the renovated existing 62,000-square-foot clinic. The project has more than doubled the Reno campus’ exam rooms and operating rooms, and expands ROC Express, the urgent care walk-in clinic. The expansion also adds capacity for the advanced imaging center – one of most utilized services – to bring MRI services to the campus while doubling the amount of x-ray rooms. Additional features on the campus include clinical offices, physical therapy and a post-operative recovery center.

“ROC’s Reno campus serves as a testament to what is possible when we combine our expertise in orthopedic medical facilities with an industry leader like ROC who has a strong and innovative vision for the future of the field. This cutting-edge medical campus will help ROC to continue elevating the health care experience and strengthen the Reno community,” said Chris Wesche, health care business unit COO for The Neenan Company. “Health care design and construction requires a high degree of specialization, and we have been honored to bring our national health care experience to the Reno market.”

ROC’s decision to remain in this central location signifies its commitment to and investment in Reno’s emerging downtown corridor. With a legacy of serving the Northern Nevada region for more than 60 years, providing greater access for patients was a top priority for the leadership team.

With the project, ROC’s Reno campus also now hosts the Chiron Center, a bio skills learning lab offering specialized training for future health care providers in collaboration with the University of Nevada, Reno. Shaping the future of orthopedic care for the Reno community, the Chiron Center features fellowship programs and research and educational spaces.

“At the outset of the project, we knew it would have been in many ways easier to move and build our flagship campus from the ground-up on a new site. But in our core, we felt it was the right decision to remain central to our patients and invest in downtown Reno,” said Lisa Mead, CEO of ROC. “We are proud to serve as a beacon for the region – and for the industry – as to what is possible when investing in your community. Not only are we the first to bring the university component to downtown Reno, but we see the industry taking notice of our work: we are the proud recipient of the top Ambulatory Service Center award by the Leapfrog Group, one of only 13 nationally.”
