News Release: Skanska to Build $187M Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute

Orlando, FL, (January 08, 2021) – Skanska, a global construction and development firm, has announced it was awarded the contract to lead construction for the new 371,000-square-foot Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute in downtown Orlando. The combined inpatient and outpatient facility will be dedicated solely to the care of orthopedic patients.
The Institute includes a newly planned eight-story building that will house 75 inpatient rooms and 10 operating rooms (ORs). An adjoining six-story medical office building will include two floors of ambulatory suites which will contain an added 12 ORs.

“Over the years, Skanska has had the privilege to partner with Orlando Health to help the healthcare system expand and meet growing healthcare needs in the Orlando community,” said Michael C. Brown, executive vice president and general manager of Skanska USA’s building operations in Florida. “With this latest partnership, we will further enhance and grow the system’s state-of-the-art facilities to better serve patients in the Central Florida community.”

Designed by architecture firm EYP Architecture & Engineering, the medical pavilion and outpatient surgery center are set to be completed in late 2022 and the hospital has an anticipated completion by summer 2023. Upon its opening, the hospital is expected to add 500 jobs. As one of the only orthopedic-specific hospitals in the Southeast, the new facility will offer unparalleled comfort and ease for patients – from arrival through departure.

The total amount of the project is $187 million that will be awarded to Skanska for the construction of the Institute. A portion of $63.33 million was booked in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Currently, Skanska is building several healthcare construction projects in Florida including the renovation and expansion of the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers and completing phase two of the Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health in South Florida.
