News Release: Ken Smondrowski tapped to launch Transwestern Healthcare Services in Washington, D.C.

Leading Real Estate Company Leverages National Success to Expand Local Services

(Sept. 18, 2019 – Bethesda, MD.) – Transwestern Commercial Services (TCS) today announces Ken Smondrowski has joined the firm as Vice President – Healthcare Advisory Services. In this role, he is responsible for advising owners and users of medical office space on portfolio management, asset acquisition and disposition, and lease negotiation and administration throughout Washington, D.C. This is the latest progression of the firm’s healthcare real estate services expansion driven by the platform’s extensive national success. This role will unite Smondrowski with TCS veteran team member Joe McCormick, utilizing their shared knowledge of healthcare real estate.

“We are highly intentional in recruiting the best professionals in the industry to build our rapidly growing team,” said Phil McCarthy, Executive Managing Director. “Ken brings deep knowledge of the local healthcare sector and a proven track record that will be a valuable resource for healthcare real estate owners, investors and occupiers throughout the region.”

Smondrowski joins from Health-Pro Realty Group, where his focus was primarily on healthcare-related real estate transactions in the metropolitan D.C. region. Previously, as Area Director at RMR, he was responsible for leasing and property management for a portfolio exceeding 7.5 million square feet of commercial office space in Baltimore, Silver Spring, Rockville and Fairfax, Virginia.

In one of his career highlights, Smondrowski represented Microbiology International in the purchase of a 65,000-square-foot lab/flex building in Frederick, Maryland, for $4.5 million. The ownership later retained him for asset management, leasing and construction management for the three laboratory facilities. Smondrowski is also a former board member of the Commercial Real Estate Brokerage Association of Greater Washington D.C.

“Transwestern has positioned itself as the industry leader for healthcare real estate services across the country,” Smondrowski said. “I’m excited to combine my experience with the talented professionals on the national Healthcare Advisory Services team to bring an unequaled level of sophistication and a dedication to exceptional service in this highly specialized industry sector.”

The TCS Healthcare Advisory Services team is the country’s largest dedicated healthcare real estate team. Operating from 20 cities and including more than 175 members, the group recently recruited Kate Morris and Vince Femiano in Phoenix and John Huff in Dallas. The team provides a full range of services, including project management and construction services, property management, leasing, tenant advisory, and investment for hospitals, healthcare networks, physicians and investors.
