People: Q&A with Jay Buckley, Anchor’s new VP of asset management

After five years with HCP, industry veteran joins private HRE firm to help manage its fast-growing portfolio

In a reflection of its strong growth in recent years, Charlottesville, Va.-based Anchor Health Properties recently hired commercial real estate veteran Jay Buckley for the role of VP, asset management.

Mr. Buckley, who started his career with an office-focused real estate investment trust (REIT), entered the healthcare real estate arena in 2013 when he joined Irvine, Calif.-based HCP Inc. (NYSE: HCP).

Now based in Anchor’s Nashville, Tenn., office, he is responsible for regional asset management of key managed portfolio investments in the eastern part of the country, as well as supporting underwriting and due diligence efforts for new medical office investments.

Anchor CEO Ben Ochs says Mr. Buckley’s “skill set and depth of experience align perfectly with our platform and we are excited to have him take the lead on developing sophisticated real estate strategies to meet our clients’ needs.”

We caught up with Mr. Buckley recently to talk about his career so far and his new role with Anchor Health Properties. Here is the interview. (Some answers have been condensed slightly and edited for clarity.)
