As part of a $250 million mixed-use project slated for a site next to the massive Carolinas Medical Center campus in the midtown area of Charlotte, N.C., local firm Pappas Properties is planning to develop an outpatient medical building of about 280,000 square feet.

The facility, which would be part of a two-phase medical project, would be anchored by Charlotte-based Atrium Health. The health system owns and operates dozens of hospitals in the Southeast, including the flagship, 847-bed Carolinas Medical Center, which is the Charlotte region’s only Level 1 trauma center.

The hospital’s campus includes a satellite medical school for the University of North Carolina, the Levine Cancer Institute, the Levine Children’s Hospital, and numerous other facilities.
