Medical Property Trust emerges unscathed from Adeptus Health restructuring

Most of the providers that had partnered with Adeptus Health to operate freestanding emergency departments have ended those relationships. Adeptus still operates 37 First Choice facilities in the Houston, San Antonio and Austin, Texas, markets.
For the past several years, healthcare real estate (HRE) professionals have expressed growing concern about potential over saturation in the freestanding emergency department (FED) space particularly in Texas and Colorado, where such facilities are not subject to regulatory approval through a certificate of need (CON) application process.
