News Release: Jacksonville Jaguars $1 million gift creates $2.25 million endowment to Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center

Funds to support women’s breast cancer prevention, treatment and care

Shad Khan, owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, has made a $1 million gift to Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center that, with matching funds, has created a $2.25 million Jacksonville Jaguars endowment for breast cancer prevention, treatment, and care. Khan presented a check to Hugh Greene, President and Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Health, during Sunday’s game between the Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders at EverBank Field.

“Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center provides a unique opportunity for Jacksonville in the international efforts to prevent, treat and cure cancer,” Khan said. “For this reason, we are making a significant commitment to create an endowment to support and help advance their efforts, specifically in the area of breast cancer which continues to impact the lives of women daily. This is a serious disease and one that requires teamwork to defeat it, and we are honored to be a part of that team.”

“We are very grateful for Shad Khan’s generosity, which recognizes the transformational nature of the Baptist MD Anderson partnership and the world-renowned model of care it has brought to our region,” said Greene. “This gift is yet another indication of our longstanding relationship as the official health care provider of the Jacksonville Jaguars since 1993.”

Baptist Health is Northeast Florida’s largest and most comprehensive health system, one of only five organizations in the nation to be chosen as a partner member of MD Anderson Cancer Network®, a program of MD Anderson Cancer Center. Based in Houston, MD Anderson is the largest freestanding cancer center in the world, and consistently has been ranked as America’s best hospital for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report. Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center replicates the MD Anderson model of multidisciplinary cancer care, addressing the medical needs of patients as well as their emotional, spiritual, and wellness needs. Centrally locating all services and specialties in one facility provides the patient and family with a home for every step of their journey – diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment, support and survivorship.
