News Release: Baptist Health opens new freestanding pediatric and adult emergency center at St. Johns Town Center

Jacksonville, Fla., April 11, 2016 – With the demand for emergency services continuing to grow, Baptist Health on Tuesday, April 12, is opening a new freestanding emergency center, Baptist Emergency Town Center.

The new 16-bed emergency center at the St. Johns Town Center, 4085 Town Center Parkway, near the intersection of Interstate 295 and Town Center Parkway, houses two emergency centers under one roof – the Baptist Emergency Center and the Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center. Each center will have eight exam rooms and the dedicated rooms on the Wolfson Children’s side are specially designed to meet the unique needs of children.

The Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center features a waiting area with high ceilings and a kid-friendly, ocean-themed wall with beautiful and calming sea animals. The children’s emergency center includes physicians board certified in emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine. Wolfson Children’s Hospital-trained team members, along with the physicians and specially trained pediatric nurses, respiratory therapists and radiology technicians, handle all types of illnesses and injuries, whether minor or life-threatening occurring in children.

A key advantage of this Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center is that it is affiliated with the only full-service pediatric hospital system in the region, Wolfson Children’s Hospital, which means the pediatric emergency team works with pediatric radiologists who understand the development of growth plates in children when interpreting all pediatric X-ray images. Pediatric pharmacists are available to consult on medication management and dosage with physicians at the new Emergency Center, which is critically important in children. Pediatric emergency patients, who require a higher level of care, will have direct access to Wolfson Children’s more-than-240 pediatric physician specialists representing 30-plus pediatric medical and surgical specialties.

The Baptist Emergency Town Center, which is 17,030 square feet and is located on 1.76 acres, offers the same 24/7 level of care as found in a hospital emergency department, with a full complement of diagnostic services for adult and pediatric emergency patients, including a full-service laboratory, CT scanner, ultrasound, X-ray and emergency medical transport.

If a patient needs to be admitted to a hospital for further treatment after an evaluation, the center offers easy access to inpatient services at Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South or Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

“We saw a clear need for emergency care close to home for children and adults living in and around the St. Johns Town Center area,” said Darin C. Roark, administrator of Emergency Services for Baptist Health. “The Town Center location also allows us to serve the needs of the growing University of North Florida campus and surrounding communities. We are pleased to be able to provide area residents quick, easy access to adult and pediatric emergency care. We at Baptist Health understand that in an emergency, seconds count, and we are thrilled to be able to deliver emergency life-saving care closer to home.”
