INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 30, 2015 – Indianapolis-based commercial real estate developer Duke Realty announced that Mark Dukes, Vice President of Regional Asset Management, Healthcare, will join the expert faculty at the 2015 Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo Oct. 6-8 in Chicago.Mr. Dukes’ session “Hospital Split Decision: A Phased Building to Meet Current and Future Needs,” is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. It will feature a case study on a Rex Healthcare medical office building (MOB) in Holly Springs, N.C. Mr. Dukes will speak with two other panelists:
• Tommy Williams, Vice President of Ambulatory Services with UNC Rex Health Care System, and
• Jeremy Fortier, Senior Project Manager with Ascension Planning Design and Construction, and a former member of the Duke Realty Rex MOB project team.

Mr. Dukes noted, “Health system executives often face the challenge of deciding the best time to design and build MOBs. Traditional methods of phased development, like adding floors above existing space, are losing popularity among hospital systems. More providers are favoring the concept of a shared atrium constructed with the first MOB phase and connecting it to another MOB in a later phase to meet future needs.”

“Our session will explore the process Duke Realty and Rex Health Care are using to design and develop the phased Rex Healthcare MOB in North Carolina. We’ll discuss challenges, successes and lessons we’ve learned throughout this process that should help other healthcare executives who are considering similar approaches.”

The Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo is an annual conference in which industry leaders, from design firms to healthcare owners, come together for three days to share best practices, explore new concepts, and discover products and solutions. The mission of the Symposium is to create an environment that inspires change and advancement of better healthcare through physical space.
