News Release: Shriners Hospitals for Children Joins Mayo Clinic Care Network

Shriners Hospitals for Children LogoNon-Ownership Relationship Expands Knowledge and Reach

TAMPA, Fla. (May 26, 2015) — Mayo Clinic and Shriners Hospitals for Children today announced Shriners Hospitals for Children as a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, a national network of organizations committed to better serving patients and their families through physician collaboration.

The network will allow Shriners Hospitals for Children, a national health care system, to offer providers and patients convenient access to additional expertise from Mayo Clinic. The closer relationship will enhance the delivery of local care and promote peace of mind as providers and patients make health care decisions.

“With Mayo Clinic’s similar mission of providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, education and research, a relationship will give Shriners Hospitals the opportunity to further transform children’s lives,” said Dale W. Stauss, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Shriners Hospitals for Children.

“We’re so pleased to welcome Shriners Hospitals for Children into the network,” said David Hayes, M.D., medical director, Mayo Clinic Care Network. “We have a relationship that dates back to our founders, and we’ve been proud to work with Shriners Hospitals on behalf of patients. Through the network, we’ll be able to work even more closely, sharing what we know to enhance locally delivered care.”

Tools and services available through the Mayo Clinic Care Network include eConsults and AskMayo Expert among other tools. Through the network, member organizations also have the opportunity to consult with Mayo Clinic on operational and business processes and access an extensive library of patient education materials and physician and scientist grand rounds conferences.

The Mayo Clinic Care Network represents non-ownership relationships. Shriners Hospitals for Children and other members of the network remain independent and share a commitment to improve the quality and delivery of health care. The network, launched in 2011, now has more than 30 member organizations and a reach that extends across the United States and includes locations in Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
