AKRON, Ohio, Jan. 8, 2014 – The successful partnership between Akron General and Rendina Healthcare Real Estate, one that produced the 140,000-square-foot Health & Wellness Campus in Green, Ohio, is poised to expand across the nation.
Building on the industry’s gravitation toward consolidated and preventative services, Akron General has created a new subsidiary to expand wellness programs nationwide: Akron General Health & Wellness Innovations. The new entity will identify and advise health systems whose communities stand to benefit from the outreach and convenience wellness centers provide.
Akron General is considered a trailblazer in the health and wellness business with three successful centers that have received national attention. Located in Green, about 10 miles south of Akron, The Akron General Health & Wellness Center is the latest rendition and has garnered several distinguished awards since opening its doors in 2012. The facility offers a broad spectrum of outpatient services, including a 24-hour emergency department and medically supervised fitness programs that are open to the public via membership.
By deploying this model around the country, Akron General will play a pivotal role in the efforts of healthcare organizations as they seek to improve the quality of life within their communities through new methods of healthcare delivery. Rendina would provide capital, and also offer planning, design, development, leasing and management.
Steve Barry, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Leasing for Rendina, sees the opportunity as the next step in a long-running relationship. “Our previous Health & Wellness venture with Akron General is something we are eager to repeat,” said Barry. “Akron General has demonstrated tremendous expertise in conceptualizing and operating these facilities. Their oversight will help other systems create comprehensive healthcare destinations that promote healthy living.”
