News Release: HDR’s Boston Office Expands Design Practice with Four New Hires

HDR has made four new hires to broaden and enhance the design and delivery expertise already in place in the Boston office. The influx of new talent demonstrates HDR’s commitment to the company’s growing design practice in Boston, and will strengthen HDR’s healthcare and S+T practices throughout the eastern region.

Neal Corbett, managing principal of the Boston office, says, “These hires demonstrate not only the high quality of work we’re capable of delivering, but also the diversity of services we’re able to deliver to healthcare, S+T and academic clients, with both technical and design expertise, from front-end conceptual design to construction documentation. With projects like the North Shore Medical Center Building for the Future and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Williamson Translational Research Building ramping up, we are fortunate to have their knowledge and expertise.”

Imran Khan, AIA, LEED AP
Senior Project Manager

After 20 years practicing architecture in Cambridge, Imran has crossed the Charles River to join HDR. He has spent the majority of his architectural career working with academic science + technology clients, including the Boston area’s premiere research institutions MIT, Harvard University, and Northeastern University. At HDR, Imran will focus his exceptional planning, design, management and project delivery skills on the science + technology sector. He will act as a trusted partner for our clients and within our teams.

Imran has spent his career focusing on higher education projects, most recently at Ellenzweig Architecture|Planning. His projects include various research laboratory additions and renovations at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts; the Health Sciences Simulation Laboratory Suite at Northeastern University in Boston; and a new Chemistry Teaching and Research Building at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. In addition, Imran gives back to the architectural community by sitting on the Master of Architecture Thesis Faculty at the Boston Architectural College, a post he has held since 2007.

Allen Buie, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP
Senior Project Designer

With 13 years of experience in the industry, most recently at Perkins+Will’s Boston office, Allen prides himself on challenging traditional boundaries between healthcare planning and design. He works closely with users to develop plan layouts while developing architectural and interiors design concepts. His role at HDR will be to lead the design of new projects, particularly focusing on conceptual through design development. He will also work to elevate design in all HDR projects in the region, particularly in the healthcare sector.

Healthcare is Allen’s passion—he is an alumnus of the Architecture + Health graduate program at Clemson University, a recipient of the Herman Miller for Healthcare Fellowship, and the winner of an Individual Distinction Award from Healthcare Facilities Symposium and Expo. He’s written on healthcare for Contract Magazine Online and taught webinars for AIA’s Academy of Architecture for Healthcare. He has shaped a number of key healthcare projects in New England, including the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston; renovations to the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, Massachusetts; and the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.

Andrew Hazelton, LEED AP
Senior Architectural Coordinator

Andrew has spent over 25 years honing his craft: to create award-winning architecture for commercial and academic clients. His projects have won awards and citations from the AIA and the Boston Society of Architects. At HDR, Andrew will apply his diverse and well-rounded skill set to lead architectural coordination throughout the design and delivery process.

Since earning his Master of Architecture degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Andrew has spent 18 years in the Boston area, including work at firms Tsoi/Kobus & Associates, Architerra, SLAM Collaborative, and most recently ADD Inc. His broad project repertoire includes the Garthwaite Center for Science at the Cambridge School of Weston, Massachusetts; the “Troy Boston” apartment building at 275 Albany Street in Boston; the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and AIA Honor Award-winner, the Hunter McDaniel Hall at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia.

Michael Doiron, LEED AP, CDT
Senior Architectural Coordinator

With more than 20 years spent practicing architecture in the Boston region, Michael is excited to bring his broad project experience and exceptional coordination skills to HDR’s practice. He’s worked on a variety of project types, including academic healthcare, and corporate clients, and particularly excels in the coordination and delivery of large-scale projects through BIM. Michael will focus on leading architecture through construction documentation.

Michael earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Environmental Design from Texas A&M University and returned to his hometown of Boston, sharing his expertise at firms including ADD Inc., Perkins+Will, and most recently Elkus Manfredi Architects. He’s a champion of integrated digital design, and is a member of the Boston Society of Architects’ Code Committee and Healthcare subcommittee. His recent projects include Assembly Row residential mixed-use building in Somerville, Massachusetts; Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando; and Two Crosstown Center in Boston.
