Analysts point to a dearth of deal making, the CEO’s firing and a ‘cheap’ stock

Should HCP Inc. (NYSE: HCP) merge with one of the other Big Three healthcare real estate investment trusts (REITs), Ventas Inc. (VTR) or Healthcare Care REIT Inc. (NYSE: HCN)? A growing number of securities analysts seem to think so.
Although it was careful to state that “no deal is imminent,” a March 26 article on Bloomberg.com noted that there would be several benefits to an HCP merger and, with the stock price at its lowest level since mid-2009, the timing might be right.
