Ceremonial groundbreaking to be held on April 17
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (April 10, 2014) – With construction underway of a new 60,150-‐ square-‐foot U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient facility in Huntsville, Johnson Development is holding a ceremonial groundbreaking for the $24 million clinic.
Johnson Development began construction at the site in March. The ceremonial groundbreaking will be held on April 17 to celebrate the new facility.
In addition to primary care, the VA clinic will offer diagnostics, radiology, physical therapy and eye care, as well as housing a hearing clinic, women’s specialty clinic and pharmacy.
The new clinic will consolidate several smaller local VA facilities, Huntsville Clinic and Decatur-‐Madison Community-‐Based Outpatient Clinic, into one larger clinic to better serve the area.
“Currently, many patients in the area have to travel to major cities, such as Birmingham, for treatment,” said Derek Weaver, Senior Vice President of Federal Property Development for Johnson Development. “This new facility will provide more services to area customers and reduce their travel time.”
The clinic will be a LEED certified, sustainable facility, equipped with all energy efficient components.
Located about a mile west of downtown Huntsville, the VA facility will be situated between the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Butler High School.
In addition to the VA Huntsville project, Johnson Development is in the process of completing a VA facility in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
The company also has projects for private healthcare clients underway in Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi, Texas and North Carolina.
