Outpatient Projects: Iowa system playing ‘catch up’

Replacement campus in Marshalltown will ramp up outpatient services

By John B. Mugford

Acknowledging that their outdated facilities are geared too much toward providing inpatient services, officials with an Iowa health system have announced plans for a replacement campus that will put a heavier emphasis on outpatient care.

Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center is moving forward with plans for a new campus on a 30-acre site on the outskirts of town that will include, in the first of three phases, a $35 million, 75,000 square foot facility providing urgent care, an outpatient surgery center with four operating rooms, imaging, physical therapy, rehabilitation and a lab.

The project is scheduled to break ground this spring and be completed by mid-2015.
