Companies: Doc-owned system plans big growth

DALLAS-BASED FOREST PARK MEDICAL FINDS SUCCESS DESPITE HEALTH REFORM

Even though the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act includes a provision that was meant to halt the construction of new physician-owned hospitals, the Forest Park Medical Center system in Dallas is moving forward with a plan to more than double its number of doctor-owned acute care facilities in the not-too-distant future.

The Dallas-based network recently launched a growth plan it calls “12 by ’12.” Derrick Evers, managing partner of Neal Richards Group, which develops and manages the facilities for Forest Park, told the Dallas Business Journal that the strategic plan calls for the hospital network to have a dozen Forest Park facilities open or in various stages of development by the end of 2012. Dallas-based Vibrant Healthcare LLC operates the hospitals.
