Reimbursement woes

A payroll tax reduction extension package approved by Congress and signed into law Feb. 22 by President Obama included a provision to freeze Medicare physician reimbursement rates for the rest of 2012, averting a 27.4 percent decrease that had previously been postponed but was set to take effect March 1. But while that will keep reimbursement rates stable through the rest of the 2012, physicians face a potential 32 percent Medicare reduction in January 2013.
