Provider Perspective: Off-campus plans grow

OUTPATIENT STRATEGIES ARE A PROVIDER PRIORITY

The $109 million, three-story, 133,000 square foot Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Phoenix suburb of Gilbert, Ariz., which opened in September, is the latest example of MD Anderson’s strategy of expanding to locations beyond its flagship campus at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

According to some estimates, 70 percent of healthcare today is still delivered in an inpatient setting.

But, some predict that during the next several years, the pendulum will swing to 70 percent of the care being delivered in outpatient locations – and many of those facilities will not be on a hospital campus.
