The capital markets are struggling to gain confidence in this “post-crisis” period, and that is reflected in the fragility and volatility that is periodically revealed.

In the past few weeks, we have seen the stock market drop from a tepid review of economic conditions by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke only to rally on positive news on an assessment of the European Union’s banks.

Ultimately, stability in the markets will deepen when clear economic improvement is established by consistent improvement in employment numbers across the developed world.
