Editor’s Letter: Reform might fill MOBs

MORE INSURED COULD BOOST DEMAND – OR NOT

Dear Reader:

Not to shoot down something that we wrote about last month, but there does seem to be a different interpretation of whether there would be a big increase in demand for the development of medical office space should President Obama’s healthcare reform proposal be passed into law.

In last month’s edition, we wrote a story based on a well-researched report by national real estate firm Marcus & Millichap. (For more on that, please see “Reform equals MOB boon” on the front page of the September issue of Healthcare Real Estate Insights.) The report indicates that if the president’s reform plan is passed, there would be a need for millions more square feet of MOB space because more people would receive health insurance and be able to visit their doctors.
