Orlando Health’s massive concentration of medical facilities in downtown Orlando, Fla., is about to get even bigger.

Construction began in recent weeks on a new $39 million medical office building (MOB) that would be located just north of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando.

The 150,000 square foot Downtown Outpatient Building will house physician offices, ancillary and outpatient services and retail space.

Orlando Health will own the MOB initially and eventually transfer control of the ownership entity, Downtown Outpatient Building LLC, to physician/investors.

The building is expected to take 15 months to complete, with a scheduled opening date of October 2010.

The developer on the project is Balfour/Concord & Capital Development Group. The architect is Orlando-based Baker Barrios Architects Inc.; the general contractor is Jack Jennings & Sons Inc., also of Orlando.

A $32 million, 800-space parking garage is already under construction adjacent to the MOB and is scheduled for completion at the end of the year.

The Orlando Health campus includes facilities such as Orlando Regional Medical Center, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, and others.
