GROWING PARKER ADVENTIST, SOUTH OF DENVER, TO ADD THREE-STORY WING
By John Mugford
Ever since Parker Adventist Hospital opened five years ago in a growing area south of Denver, growth has been the name of the game. The hospital’s bed count has gone from an initial 56 to 100, and patient volume has doubled.
The city of Parker, with about 41,000 people, and surrounding suburbs are experiencing plenty of growth as well.
In recent weeks, officials with the hospital and its sponsoring company, Winter Park, Fla.-based Adventist Health Systems, announced the start of a two-year, $76 million expansion and renovation project.
The project, which is slated for completion in 2011, will add a new three-story wing with an intensive care unit (ICU) and 30 new patient rooms. The addition would also have room to add 30 beds in the future, meaning the hospital that was originally built with 56 beds could have as many as 160 in a few years.
According to local media, Parker Adventist is receiving the $76 million in financing for the project from its parent system. Englewood, Colo.-based Centura Health is the operator.
