Scott & White plans $133 million facility

290,000 S.F. SURGICAL SCIENCES BUILDING TO BE BUILT ON CAMPUS IN TEMPLE, TEXAS

Scott & White, a private, not-for-profit health system based in Temple, Texas, recently announced that it is planning a $133 million, 290,000 square foot surgery center for both outpatient and inpatient procedures. Construction is expected to start in August on the four-story Surgical Sciences Building on the campus of Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, which is about halfway between Austin and Waco, Texas.

The facility would include 18 operating rooms, pre-operative and post-operative recovery rooms, and space for 18 additional operating rooms in the future.

The project is expected to take about 24 months to complete, with an opening slated for fall 2011. According to Scott & White, the operating rooms would be equipped with flat-panel view screens to assist surgeons viewing X-rays and pictures from medical imaging systems. The rooms will also accommodate surgical robot systems, support advanced minimally invasive surgery technology, and use efficient lighting systems.

The project is also slated to include a central processing department, a new central plant, a pre-surgical evaluation unit, a bistro kitchen for patients, family and staff, and a sheltered ambulance drop-off area.
