More and more health systems across the country are looking to the development of outpatient campuses to serve patients closer to home and to bolster their competitive edge.
A good example of this can be found in Bethlehem, Pa., where St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network of Bethlehem, Pa., recently announced the future development of a massive outpatient campus on undeveloped land about five miles from its main hospital campus in Bethlehem.
The first phase of the outpatient project is slated to cost about $100 million outpatient campus and have about 383,000 square feet of space. Plans call for a 100,000 square foot cancer center, a 120,000 square foot retail-style healthcare pavilion, and two medical office buildings (MOBs) with a total of 180,000 square feet. The developer on the first phase project is Charlotte, N.C.-based Cogdell Spencer Inc. (NYSE: CSA), a publicly owned real estate investment trust. The architect is Gaithersburg, Md.,-based Wilmot/Sanz Inc.
