BremnerDuke opens office in Dallas

FORMER HAMMES CO. EXECUTIVE IS NOW HEADING UP OPERATIONS IN THE SOUTHWEST

Indianapolis-based BremnerDuke Healthcare Real Estate, a division of Duke Realty Corp. (NYSE: DRE), recently announced some staff appointments to its new a new office in Dallas.

From that new office BremnerDuke plans to pursue healthcare projects and develop relationships with hospitals systems in the Southwest region of the United States. The office is located just off the North Dallas Toll Way.

Leading the company’s Dallas office is Ed Bittner, senior VP for the Southwest. Mr. Bittner has 20 years of experience in healthcare development and joins BremnerDuke after working with the Southwest office of Brookfield, Wis.-based Hammes Co. Mr. Bittner was involved in the planning and development of more than 1.5 million square feet of healthcare real estate in Florida.

BremnerDuke also hired Chris Smith to work in its Dallas office and find new healthcare project opportunities throughout the Southwest. Mr. Smith has been involved in healthcare for 10 years; his most recent assignment was as a VP, business development for Kansas City, Mo.-based Nueterra Real Estate.

Other assignments at the Dallas office include the addition of Rich Couturier as VP, development. Mr. Couturier is moving from BremnerDuke’s Indianapolis headquarters to the Dallas office. Also, John Huff, is the VP, leasing, at BremnerDuke’s Dallas office. Prior to joining BremnerDuke in July 2006, he was a VP at Magellan Commercial Realty in Dallas.

In the Southeast

In other news, BremnerDuke recently named Jason Hinkel as senior VP in the Southeast region. According to a press release from BremnerDuke, Mr. Hinkel has 10 years of experience in the industry, including the development of facilities in the Carolinas and other portions of the country.

The company says he is involved with the coordination of project development activities, including acquiring and developing land for medical facilities. He is also involved in developing healthcare projects for hospital systems. His duties include negotiating with real estate firms, private enterprise, construction companies, and governmental and regulatory organization representatives, as well as community leaders.

Prior to joining BremnerDuke, Mr. Hinkel coordinated all aspects of development on more than $74 million worth of medical office projects for Charlotte, N.C.-based Cogdell Spencer Advisors. He also oversaw financing and purchasing for the firm’s $19 million medical office building (MOB) portfolio.

Long Beach, Calif.-based HCP Inc. (NYSE:HCP) recently announced the resignation of Stephen R. Maulbetsch, the company’s executive VP – strategic development. Mr. Maulbetsch resigned to attend to personal matters, according to a news release from the real estate investment trust. “Steve has been instrumental in building and positioning HCP as one of the premier companies in the real estate investment trust industry during his 22 years of service,” James F. “Jay” Flaherty, the company’s chairman and CEO, said in the release… Santa Ana, Calif.-based Triple Net Properties LLC recently hired Michael Van Dusen as a senior VP. In this role, Mr. Van Dusen is responsible for raising equity for NNN Realty Advisors’ real estate investment trust programs, which are NNN Healthcare/Office REIT and NNN Apartment REIT. He also raises equity for Triple Net Properties’ 1031 tenant-in-common exchange programs. Mr. Van Dusen’s territories include New England, New Jersey and New York. He will also be a registered representative with NNN Capital Corp., the broker-dealer subsidiary of NNN Realty Advisors. Prior to joining Triple Net Properties, Mr. Van Dusen served as first VP of a national real estate acquisition and investment management firm. He has 20 years of experience in investment securities sales. q
