Texas projects
reach $304 million
DALLAS – With the recent addition of two Texas hospital construction projects totaling $181 million, the Dallas office of Robins & Morton, a construction firm concentrating on healthcare, is now working on projects totaling about $304 million in the Lone Star State.
The two recently awarded Texas projects comprise $115 million worth of new facilities at a new hospital campus for Hillcrest Health System in Waco, and a $66 million, 100-bed acute care hospital for Sierra Providence East, owned by Tenet Healthcare Corp. (NYSE: THC), in El Paso.
In addition, Robins & Morton is nearing completion on an additional five projects totaling $123 million in four Texas cities. The Hillcrest project in Waco will include an 89-bed women’s and children’s hospital and a 189-bed community hospital.
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer with completion planned for 2009. Construction on the El Paso hospital is expected to begin in May with completion scheduled for 2008.

MedCath Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., has entered a contract with the Methodist Medical Center of Illinois, a 353-bed hospital system in Peoria, Ill., to manage its cardiovascular program. Under the agreement, MedCath (NASDAQ: MDTH) will work with Methodist to expand services. The partnership also could include clinical initiatives and, potentially, the development of a heart tower on the Methodist campus… Lillibridge, a private healthcare real estate firm based in Chicago, has announced the formation of Lillibridge Advisors, designed to help healthcare providers maximize the performance and strategic value of their real estate assets. The new initiative combines the firm’s existing real estate advisory and strategic services practices to provide more real estate solutions for clients, according to company officials. The senior team at Lillibridge Advisors includes, among others, Margie McHugh, senior vice president, and Richard Ferraro, vice president… McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. of St. Louis and its joint venture partner, Dayton, Ohio-based Danis Building Construction Co., have been chosen as the construction manager for a future $280 million, multi-faceted healthcare campus for Community Mercy Health Partners in Springfield, Ohio. The campus will include a 600,000 square foot to 800,000 square foot acute care hospital and a 150,000 square foot medical office facility. It will be located on 45 acres in the heart of Springfield. Construction is expected to begin in 2007 with completion slated for 2010… Primecorp Commercial Realty Inc. of Ottawa has expanded its operations into healthcare real estate brokerage. The company says its new division specializes in retirement and long-term care homes, independent and assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, retirement communities and condominiums, congregate care facilities, life lease projects and special purpose buildings. Raffaele Guglielmelli has joined the firm to lead the Healthcare Group initiative. q
