PRICE OF PITTSBURGH FACILITY GROWS DUE TO ENHANCEMENTS, RISING COSTS

The price tag for the new UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh will be $102 million more than budgeted 14 months ago and more than double the cost anticipated in 2001.
That’s according to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Children’s Hospital, which announced Nov. 7 that they have reached a new agreement on a budget of $575 million. Enhancements and additions to the project, as well as an increase in the cost of buildings materials, account for the increases.
