The 134,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility brings advanced healthcare services to North Georgia

ATLANTA (April 3, 2026) — McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. has announced the completion of CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital in Catoosa County, Georgia, marking the first new hospital delivered to the community in seven decades. The $90 million, 134,000-square-foot project was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 11.
The 64-bed inpatient hospital replaces the 70-year-old Hutcheson Medical Center and connects to the existing physician office building, serving as an anchor for its medical campus. The site is also home to CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital, Rees Skillern Cancer Institute and MaryEllen Locher Breast Cancer Center, as well as the physician office building. CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital – North Georgia expands access to care for residents in surrounding rural communities, reducing the need to travel to Chattanooga or other counties for services.
Project partners include Hoefer Welker as the design-build architect and SSR providing engineering services. Approximately 37% of the construction work was performed by local trades, highlighting strong community participation in the project.
“Completing a hospital of this scale speaks to our team’s experience and commitment to delivering high-quality, complex healthcare facilities,” said Justis Brogan, Atlanta market business leader at McCarthy. “We’re proud to have played a central role in bringing the first new hospital to Catoosa County in over 70 years, a facility that will serve the community for generations to come.”
The hospital features a state-of-the-art emergency department with critical care services, imaging services, operating rooms, a GI department, a pharmacy, a modernized kitchen and servery, a laboratory, sterile processing and a chapel featuring stained glass provided by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. The facility also houses eight ICU rooms and 56 medical and surgery rooms, including five isolation rooms. As a SMART hospital, CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital – North Georgia integrates advanced technology, including artificial intelligence, automation and virtual care, to improve patient care, streamline operations and enable physicians and providers to deliver a modern healthcare experience.
Additional renovations were completed to enhance patient access and operational efficiency across the campus. The Cancer Center upgraded to include a new waiting room, patient registration area, storage, a stretcher alcove and a new southern entrance. The Physician Office Building also features new administrative offices, an office for the director of nursing and a dedicated Command Center.
“This leading-edge hospital represents a huge milestone for our community,” said Angie Stiggins, CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital – North Georgia administrator. “We’re proud to officially open and provide a modern, compassionate environment that supports our patients, families and medical staff.”
CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital – North Georgia adds to McCarthy’s broader portfolio of healthcare projects in Georgia, including work at multiple locations with Northside Hospital, Piedmont Healthcare, WellStar Health System and Erlanger Health System East.
