Today, UNC Health Pardee marked a significant milestone in its healthcare expansion effort with the official groundbreaking of a new medical office building on Spartanburg Highway in Henderson County. The ceremony, held on January 8, 2026, brings to life long-term plans for increasing access to quality healthcare services throughout the region.
The new medical office building on Spartanburg Highway, developed in partnership with Henderson County, is one of four facilities that fuel Pardee’s strategic growth plan. This newest facility is designed to expand outpatient and primary care services and support future specialty care needs within Henderson County. Planned services include Pardee BlueMD primary care, physical therapy services, pharmacy services with drive-thru access provided by Pardee Rx, outpatient care offerings, and additional specialty services. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2027, positioning the facility to begin welcoming patients soon thereafter.
“UNC Health Pardee and Henderson County have a strong history of working together to meet the healthcare needs of our community,” said James M. Kirby II, President and CEO of UNC Health Pardee. “As the region continues to grow, so do the demands on care and services across Henderson County. Through continued partnership and collaboration with the County, UNC Health Pardee remains committed to providing accessible, high-quality care where it’s needed most.”
Henderson County is funding the development and construction costs of the facility, at no expense to taxpayers, by way of a reimbursement resolution passed by the Henderson County Board of Commissioners. UNC Health Pardee will cover the entire cost of the County’s borrowing through lease payments made directly to Henderson County.
UNC Health Pardee is a not-for-profit regional healthcare organization based in Henderson County and managed by UNC Health. The county-owned hospital was founded in 1953 in Hendersonville, NC, and is licensed for 222 acute care beds. Pardee has grown from the Henderson County Hospital to become a healthcare system that serves residents across Henderson, Haywood, Transylvania, and Buncombe counties, offering a wide range of medical services, including a comprehensive primary care physician network, a cancer center, three urgent care locations, five orthopedics and sports medicine clinics and a medical staff representing 43 specialties.
