Focusing on one region has made Lon Mapes the area’s go-to resource for HRE

As HREI™ has noted in several articles over the years, there are certain professionals around the country who are considered to be the go-to healthcare real estate (HRE) resources in their respective markets.
When it comes to the geographically vast and economically strong Inland Empire in Southern California – a 27,000 square mile region that starts about 60 miles east of Los Angeles and encompasses Riverside and San Bernardino counties – many professionals in the HRE sector consider the go-to HRE professional to be Lon Mapes, who has owned and operated LDM Commercial in the region since 2007.
Mr. Mapes’ experience in both the healthcare industry and HRE runs deep, as he got involved in healthcare in 1993, when he moved from Massachusetts to work for Loma Linda University Medical Center in the Inland Empire as a financial analyst in its managed care department. After that, in the late 1990s, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and started his own firm, one that offered managed care auditing services to hospitals.
Although the venture was successful, Mr. Mapes says that national accounting firms were starting to make “a push into my space.” So, in 2003, he decided to move into commercial real estate, finding success as a broker with Coldwell Banker Commercial (CBC), where, in 2004, he was ranked 75th nationally in deal volume.
