It was mid-2007. At the time, healthcare real estate (HRE) was a widely ignored sector within the commercial real estate industry – certainly not considered to be one of the “main food groups.” Also, although no one knew it, the Great Financial Crisis was right around the corner.

In short, it was not the most opportune time to start an HRE firm.

Yet it was about that time when Healthcare Real Estate Insights™ (HREI™) Publisher Murray W. Wolf learned of some partners who planned to do exactly that.

Speaking during the InterFace HRE Conference in Dallas last month, Mr. Wolf recounted the tale.

“At a conference much like this one, some fellow I had never heard of contacted me, and he was with a company that I hadn’t heard of before, and he said he wanted a meeting,” Mr. Wolf recalled. “I said, ‘Okay, sure, I’ll take a meeting with anybody who’s interested in healthcare real estate.’

“So, this gentleman contacted me, we sat down, we talked, and he told me about his hopes and dreams for a healthcare real estate business.”
