What: IAVI, a non-profit scientific research organization dedicated to addressing global, unmet health challenges including HIV, tuberculosis, and a range of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs), will celebrate the opening of their new 30,000 sq. ft. Vaccine Design & Development Lab (DDL) in Jersey City, NJ with a ribbon-cutting followed by tours of the facility led by the local scientists working to realize IAVI’s vision of a world where all people have equitable access to innovative vaccines and therapeutics.
When: Friday, February 7, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Rain or Shine)
Where: 95 Greene Street in Jersey City, NJ
Who: IAVI executives and attendees will be joined by peers and leaders in the New Jersey and New York biotech and global health spaces.
Why: After nearly 20 years of research and innovation in Brooklyn, the DDL outgrew its former space and after a thorough search of available life sciences space in the tri-state region, led by CBRE, IAVI decided to join New Jersey’s burgeoning biotech community at 95 Greene Street.
Originally established in 2005 as the AIDS Vaccine Development Laboratory, the DDL was formally opened in 2008 at the Brooklyn Army Terminal with support from the New York City Mayor’s Office, New York City Economic Development Corporation, various charitable foundations, and other government resources.
Today, the DDL is led by native New Jersey resident Christopher L. Parks, Ph.D., and is one of the world’s leading vaccine research and development labs and IAVI’s hub for EID vaccine design and development. Their staff of 25 scientists focus on protective vaccines for HIV and other priority pathogens, together with domestic and international collaborators, and informed by the communities most affected by these EIDs.
