As the healthcare, science and academic markets further collide, Taylor Design is harnessing the diverse skill sets of its designers to grow the company’s portfolio in Northern California.
San Francisco, Calif. (March 9, 2016) – Taylor Design, an employee-owned architectural, environments and strategies firm, has named Kevin Hinrichs, LEED AP to Principal. Hinrichs will continue to serve as Director of Taylor Design’s office in San Francisco, but now operates as the Principal-in-Charge, overseeing all aspects of the company’s Northern California operations, from business development to management of the office.
Hinrichs joined Taylor Design’s San Francisco office team in 2013 as Project Director. His 17-year career is highlighted by a proven history of collaborating with healthcare and science clients to deliver strategy-based designs, solving a variety of business, organization and built-environment needs.
“Kevin’s expertise in all aspects of building planning, design and construction has propelled our firm’s growth in Northern California,” said Randy Regier, President, Taylor Design. “His understanding of the industries we serve combined with thought leadership in Lean methodology, alternative project delivery methods and emerging technologies will continue to help our clients effectively achieve their business objectives through meaningful design.”
Known for ensuring a positive client experience in the firm’s core markets of healthcare, education and science and technology, Taylor Design’s staff is using its diverse expertise to design facilities for clients such as University of California, Berkeley; University of California, San Francisco; Stanford University; San Mateo County and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The firm is also working with clients in the life-safety, behavioral health and senior living markets.
“The academic medical center is a fusion of healthcare, science and education; consequently, many of the businesses we serve in the Bay Area are intertwined,” said Hinrichs. “For instance, medical research is conducted in a university lab, which is then applied to patients in a medical facility right across the street. Additionally, high schools and community colleges are building state-of-the-art science facilities to educate students for future careers in healthcare and other STEM industries.”
Since 2013, the San Francisco office of Taylor Design has grown from six to 11 employees with plans to add more positions over the next year-and-a-half. Hinrichs says he is looking for talented people who want to use their design expertise to make a positive difference for themselves as well as for the businesses and communities they serve. To accommodate its growth, the firm recently moved into larger office space in a historic building at 26 O’Farrell Street in downtown San Francisco’s Union Square and Financial District.

A Licensed Architect in California, and a LEED Accredited Professional with the United States Green Building Council, Hinrichs is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a minor in Psychology. He is an active member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers and the Herrero Lean Community. Kevin also serves on the Board of Directors for On Lok Community Housing, a nonprofit created in 1987 with the general purpose of acquiring, developing and operating real estate to house the elderly in San Francisco.
