Tennessee grants Certificate of Need for project to add 108 newly licensed beds

Despite the national shift to an outpatient healthcare system, new hospital beds are still needed in some markets and at some hospitals, as evidenced by Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s recently approved project to add 108 new beds to its main campus in Nashville, Tenn.
The hospital system recently received the go ahead for a proposed $118 million expansion project from the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency.
With the Certificate of Need (CON) approval, the hospital plans to add 108 licensed beds to its Midtown medical center while also relocating its obstetrical program, newborn nursery and neonatal unit to the adjacent Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital.
