Construction expected to begin fall 2026; opening projected for 2027
As St. Johns County continues to grow, AdventHealth plans to build a 12-bed emergency department to expand access to emergency care in the community.
The emergency department will be located on AdventHealth’s second property in the county, spanning more than 20 acres in the World Commerce Center. The site provides space for the facility and flexibility for future health care services as community needs evolve and for AdventHealth to grow its services as well.
Construction is anticipated to begin fall 2026, with the emergency department projected to open in 2027.
“When emergencies happen, timely access to care can make all the difference,” said Rob Deininger, president and CEO of the AdventHealth East Florida Division. “This new emergency department will provide 24/7 care closer to home for residents and visitors in St. Johns County. As a faith-based, nonprofit health system, AdventHealth is committed to caring for the whole person — body, mind and spirit — and meeting the needs of growing communities.”
The 12-bed facility will serve patients of all ages and will be connected to AdventHealth’s broader network of hospitals and specialty services across Northeast Florida. Patients who require additional treatment, advanced procedures or inpatient care will have coordinated access to those services, helping ensure continuity of care close to home.
“As more families choose to call St. Johns County home, access to emergency care becomes increasingly important,” said Deininger. “This investment reflects our commitment to growing alongside the community and ensuring care is available when and where it’s needed most.”
The project builds on AdventHealth’s growing presence in St. Johns County. Earlier this year, AdventHealth Medical Group opened its first clinic in the area, a 3,000-square-foot facility located at 1000 Plantation Island Drive in St. Augustine. The clinic brings together physicians specializing in cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, urogynecology, nephrology, neurosurgery, bariatric surgery, vascular and general surgery — giving residents access to specialty care closer to home.
Last March, the organization broke ground on a 12-bed freestanding emergency department along State Road 207 near Wildwood Drive. The facility, expected to open this summer, will provide 24/7 emergency services in the southern portion of the county.
This continued growth in St. Johns County builds on a longstanding presence in neighboring Flagler County, where AdventHealth has cared for patients for more than 20 years. During that time, access to care has expanded through new facilities, including opening AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway and the Freytag Cancer Center at AdventHealth Palm Coast, as well as the addition of physicians serving the region.
Headquartered in Central Florida, AdventHealth serves communities across the state through a network of hospitals, emergency departments and outpatient clinics. Its growth in Northeast Florida reflects a commitment to expanding access to faith-based, whole-person care across the region.
