New 58,000-sq ft. Fitchburg facility to feature 40 all-private rooms and rehabilitative services
Birmingham, Ala. – The Sanders Trust, one of the nation’s leading healthcare real estate investment and development companies, is pleased to announce the recent groundbreaking of the a new free-standing inpatient rehabilitation facility in Fitchburg, Wisconsin.The facility is operated by UW Health, UnityPoint Health – Meriter and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, an operating division of Lifepoint Health.
The Sanders Trust was selected as the developer of the 58,000-square-foot rehabilitation hospital. With 40 all-private patient rooms, the facility will expand access to comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services in the region, and joins the partners’ existing 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the east side of Madison, which has been serving patients since September 2015.
The Fitchburg hospital will provide intensive nursing, physical, occupational, and speech pathology services for adults recovering from conditions such as stroke, brain or spinal cord injury, neurological disease, and other debilitating illnesses or injuries. Designed with patient-centered care in mind, the hospital will address a significant community need for additional rehabilitation services and make care more accessible for patients and families across southwest Madison.

The Sanders Trust is partnering with general contractor Findorff and architect ESa (Earl Swensson Associates) to bring the vision of the facility to life. It will be located at the southwest corner of Lacy Road and Hwy. 14 in Fitchburg, Wisconsin and is expected to open to patients in 2027.
