Marking Major Milestone in Countywide Healthcare Transformation
The design-build team of HENSEL PHELPS, HMC Architects, and CO Architects is proud to announce the topping out of the new inpatient tower at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a major milestone in Los Angeles County’s ambitious healthcare transformation.
The nine-story, 545,000-SF tower is the centerpiece of the hospital’s 1.3-million-SF redevelopment and the final building to rise on the 72-acre campus. Once complete, the steel-frame facility will house 347 patient beds—including 44 intensive care beds, 200 medical-surgical beds, 20 neonatal intensive care beds, and 36 mental health beds.
Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, the modern Level I Trauma Center will also include a 370,000-SF outpatient facility. The project enhances patient care and operational efficiency while creating a healing-centered, community-connected environment that sets a new benchmark for resilience and sustainability in Southern California.
The May 5 topping out ceremony marks a symbolic “last beam” in place, bringing the vision of a future-ready, compassionate place of care one step closer to reality.
